Default Should Mini Pets Been Pre-Customized From The Start?

This is a debate whether the mini pets should of came pre customized or not.

ANet brought in mini pets to chars a year old. I dont think they were meant to be the new big seller in the market. All event masks come pre customized so you cant sell them. Why should you be able to sell mini pets? They were a gift from ANet. Discuss.

EDIT: Personally, I think the way ANet should of done it was you got to choose the mini pet you wanted and it came customized. That way you'd be happy with what you got and you wouldnt be able to sell. All pets come white, no greens, golds, etc so people wont think one is more valubale.

I would have preferred they were customized from the beginning.

Now that they have been around for a month or more and there are hundreds if not thousands on the market being sold, I don't think it would be appropriate to start customizing them at this point.

In hindsight, customization would have made the pet more valuable (to me).

Yes and no.

I think they should come Customised...

But no they shouldn't because therefore some people would never (Well almost never) get a chance to have a rare pet like Rurik.

Since they been out for some time now, its too late to change it. If new ones were customised it would cause the existing ones to jump in price.

I have 3 minis and a Kuunavang that I got through the original means: as birthday presents, and in the case of Kuunavang, as a present from ANet for having bought the Factions CE.

I don't beat myself up over it, but I feel the same way about pets as I do about FoW armour. They could be a badge of proof, something that you could use in much the same way as a title to display your in-game achievements, but because they can be bought and sold, any old schmuck can buy them, and there's no way of proving to others that yours are originals, and that you've put time into earning them.

An interesting badge of proof would have been to name them after the original owner, so that even if you sold your pet, it would still be identifiable as having belonged to you, and people who just bought them would be easily distinguished as having purchased their pet.

But like I say, it's nothing major and is just a bit of fun.
More fool you if you buy something that you get for free if you wait long enough.

I disagree... what if you get a pet you don't like? Why shouldn't you be able to trade it?

For example: I got a jade armor for my eles b-day. I don't like jade armors. I traded it for a siege turtle. That way I'm happier and the other guy is happier. Who cares if people are making fortunes off Rurik? They've played the game for a year, they deserve a little boost

Absolutely not. I got my first, its charm was there for all of about a day. Then it was just another item taking up space in my inventory. However, it was an item taking up space in my inventory that many other people wanted. I'd prefer the cash and they'd prefer to have one. I also find the customization of 0 AL (holiday) helmets unnecessary too.

Because you dont always get what you want in life. Its the principal of it. If someone gives you a gift, you shouldnt give it to someone.

Not unless there was some kind of pet trader added. Some people get the same pet several times, or one they didn't really want/didn't get the one they hoped for. If there was some way to change pets then sure, why not.

Yeah that's the best idea

I think one possible reason they were not made customised is for them to be gold sinks. The people who sell them may need the money. Money which they then spend/use up e.g. materials, weapons, items. That's more money gone from the economy...

you can't have a gold sink between players..A gold sink is when the money is taken out of the economy. In your example the money is just being circulated between players.

Edit: And to bring my post on topic, yes i think they should be customized. what it really did was allow the rich to become richer. The same people who were selling thier pets for a 100k +xxx ectos are the same people who bought ectos and shards when they were dirt cheap during the GW market crash(reset).

well if they did come pre customised in the first place... people who didnt get one because they remade their character JUST before anet introduced mini's wouldve been really pissed...

Why should i not be able to sell them, i scanned through the thread and saw varios yes/no's, but i cant actually see a reason why they shouldnt be sold, what is the reasoning

They are a gift i understand, but i dont see why that isnt a reason to not sell them.

You have evidence and statistics to back up this wild claim?

Several of my guildees who have never farmed, never got good drops, managed to get rich because they got good pets, its luck.
